Paterson Joseph’s play Sancho has toured to high profile locations in the USA and UK, including BAM, The Kennedy Center, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and Wilton’s Music Hall in London.
Sancho tells the story of Charles Sancho’s extraordinary life, born on a slave ship and orphaned shortly after birth, Sancho was brought to London and lived the early part of his life with three sisters in Greenwich in the mid 1700s. Educated in secret by the Duke of Montagu, Sancho went on to become an actor, composer and well known anti slavery campaigner. Paterson’s play culminates in Sancho’s fight for the right to cast his vote in London in 1780. This is a funny, moving and timely tale that deals with race and the right to vote.
Paterson is one of British television’s well-known faces. He’s appeared in Timeless (NBC), The Leftovers (HBO), Doctor Who (BBC) and was most recently seen on stage as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic in London.
